For 50 years the Latin American Community Center (LACC) has served as a community anchor in the Hilltop neighborhood of Wilmington. On October 5, 2019, from 6 pm –12 am, we will be hosting our Annual Grand Ball at The Waterfall in Claymont, DE.
To honor this milestone, we are pleased to announce that Janet Murguía, president of UnidosUS, will be joining us as our keynote speaker. Janet has been president of UnidosUS, formerly National Council of La Raza (NCLR), since 2005. In that time, she has sought to make an impact by magnifying the Latino voice; as a former deputy assistant in the White House, she is a
strong advocate on Capitol Hill.
The Kansas-born Murguía often speaks warmly about her family background, especially the teachings of her parents, who came to the United States from Mexico in the 1950s and raised six children. Two of her siblings are now federal judges, while a third is an attorney who sits on the board of trustees of the W.H. Kellogg Foundation. “They taught us the importance of family, of faith, of community, hard work, sacrifice, honesty, integrity,” she said.
“It is a true honor to have Janet as our keynote speaker during this significant milestone for our organization,” said Maria Matos, President and CEO of the LACC.
